Top Children’s Christmas Movies
Home Alone
Home Alone, likely one of my all-time favorite kids’ Christmas films from my childhood, is a timeless choice. Despite the now-deemed controversial violence, it encapsulates everything kids adore about the holidays. Watching it annually is a must.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
I’ve realized, among kids’ Christmas movies, that Home Alone 2 is indeed my top pick. Though it’s rare for a sequel to surpass its predecessor, this one does. For many, it illustrates the magic of New York City during Christmas – a sentiment I share. From the Rockefeller Tree to the Turtle Doves, it stands as one of the finest Christmas films out there (not limited to children).

Elf
Known affectionately in our home as ‘Big Elf,’ this movie’s charm is undeniable, even if you aren’t a Will Farrell enthusiast. Elf is humorous, endearing, and simply fun! It has swiftly become a contemporary Christmas classic and is highly quotable, making it one of the most adored kids’ Christmas films.

The Muppet Christmas Carol
The Muppet Christmas Carol is not only an excellent children’s film, but it’s also one of the finest renditions of A Christmas Carol. It can rival any dramatic version and is likely to be favored by both kids and adults. Michael Caine is my preferred Scrooge, and Gonzo performs Charles Dickens’ narrative brilliantly. This movie should be on every holiday watchlist!

The Santa Clause
Maybe I’m a bit biased since part of this movie was shot in my hometown, but I find The Santa Clause to be a delightful children’s Christmas film. At release, it was a massive hit, and although it feels a bit dated (perhaps more so than the Home Alone series), it remains an enjoyable and fun holiday watch for kids. (The sequels don’t quite hit the same mark for me).

Additional Christmas Films for Kids
A Christmas Story Truly a classic, although more suitable for older kids and adults. As a child, I didn’t enjoy it, but some do. Stream: Online or DVD via Amazon | Check Netflix | on iTunes |
All I Want for Christmas While I have a soft spot for early-90’s Thora Birch films, this one is worth playing for the kids one December afternoon if there’s nothing else to watch. Stream: Online or DVD via Amazon | Check Netflix | on iTunes |
Muppet Family Christmas I wouldn’t say The Muppets are the best at Christmas, but they are close. This one nearly is a flawless Christmas special, featuring the Fraggles and Sesame Street gang! Stream: Unavailable on Amazon, Netflix, or iTunes. Try YouTube.(Also worth checking out: It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie) |
Jack Frost Although it’s not one of my top picks, some kids absolutely adore this Ghost-Snowman-Dad story. Despite my reservations about snowmen with eyebrows, it does have some enjoyable moments. Stream: Online or DVD via Amazon | Check Netflix | on iTunes |
